November 20, 2009 - Men's Basketball

Kyle ThorauSquamish, B.C. – The Quest Men’s team survived a terrible start and hung on for a 58-57 win over the Langara College Falcons.  Langara jumped out to a 16-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, and extended the lead to 17 points at 22-5 before Quest fought its way back into the game.

“We have to get out of the habit of starting slow and getting into a hole.”  Commented Head Coach Sean Shook.  “This is the second game in a row we surrendered a quick double digit lead.

The Kermodes, who trailed 20-28 at the half, only managed to shoot 29% from the field in the first half and gave up 14 offensive rebounds to the Falcons.  Quest outscored Langara 18-10 in the 3rd Quarter to knot the game up at 35.

After taking a 51-43 with 5:16 left in the fourth, Langara came back to tie the game at 57 with 1:49 remaining.  Bryce Froberg (Meridian/Bellingham, WA) was fouled with 11 seconds left and made his first FT and missed the second.  The ball was rebounded by Falcons guard Yassine Ghomari who went to the other end and missed a runner on the baseline and the ball bounced out toward half as time expired.

Quest was led by Froberg who finished with 18 points, 9 in the 4th quarter, 9 rebounds and 5 assists.  Kyle Thorau (Glenlyon Norfolk/Victoria, B.C.) chipped in with 11.  Langara was led by 12 from Ghomari.

The two teams return to action tonight at 8:00PM at Quest.
