November 21, 2009 – Men’s Basketball
For the third game in a row the Kermodes found themselves trailing by a double digit margin midway through the first quarter. Langara jumped out to a 16-5 lead with just over three minutes left in the frame. Quest went on a 10-2 run to start the second to knot the score at 23. Neither team shot the ball well as Langara was 29% in the first including going 1 for 16 in the second quarter. Quest was not much better shooting just under 35% for the half. “It was not text book basketball at all.” said Head Coach Sean Shook. “Neither of us shot the ball well and once again we did not come out ready to play. I am not sure what it is but we can not afford to continuously sport teams leads this big and expect to get back in the game every time.” Langara extended their small half time lead to 4 at the end of the third quarter. After Quest tied it up on their first possession, the Falcons were able to extend their lead out to nine points. With 5:27 left in the game a Brad Quevillon free throw put the Falcons up 55-47. Quest was able to chip away and tie the game up at 59 with 1:23 remaining on a John Pankratz (Brookswood/Langley, B.C.) bucket. Both teams had a shot to take the lead but both missed. Yassine Ghomari was fouled with 33 seconds remaining but missed both free throws. Falcons center Cody Cormack came up with the second miss but Quest was able to force Hardeep Braich into a turnover. Quest came back the other way and Kermode point guard Bryce Froberg (Meridian/Bellingham, WA) hit 2 of his game high 18 on a jumper just inside the free throw line with only 2.4 ticks left on the clock. It was the Kermodes first lead of the game. After a Langara time-out they were not able to get a shot off before the clock expired.
“As bad as we played early it was good to see us respond.” said Shook. “We had some foul trouble early in the third and it was nice to see Tyler Thorau (Glenlyon Norfolk/Victoria B.C.) and Tyson Compton (Walnut Grove/Langley B.C..) give us quality minutes off the bench.” Quest was led by another solid game from Froberg with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Sam Jeanes (Sutherland/North Vancouver, B.C.) and Kyle Thorau (Glenlyon Norfolk/Victoria B.C.) had 9 points each with Jeanes adding 5 boards. Hardeep Braich was the high scorer for the Falcons with 18. Quest will now travel to Prince George to take on the nationally ranked University of North British Columbia Timberwolves next Friday and Saturday night. Both games tip-off at 8 P.M. http://www.cybersportsusa.com/livegames/gbox/CybersportsQueLan11212009800pm.asp |
