June 21, 2011 – Men’s Basketball

Squamish, B.C. – The Quest Men’s Basketball team will start their season earlier then normal with a pair of tilts versus NCAA Division 1 teams from Ball State University and the University of Texas-Arlington.

"We are excited, for the first time, to have D1 teams visit Quest.  This is a great chance for the Sea to Sky area to see basketball of this calibre up close and live." commented Quest head coach Sean Shook.

On August 10th, Quest will kick off the 2011-12 season with a game against Ball State.  The Cardinals are coming off a 19-13 season and return their top five scorers, led by First Team All-Mid-American Conference selection, senior forward Jarrod Jones.  The 6’9” Forward dropped in a team leading 14.7ppg as well as leading the Cardinals in rebounding at 8.4rpg.

The following week the University of Texas Arlington will visit Squamish.  The Mavericks, members of the Southland Conference, finished with a 13-16 overall record last year.  In 2008, UT Arlington lost to the Derrick Rose led Memphis Tigers in the NCAA Tournament

“This is a good opportunity for us to get out and play against a high level of basketball.  The level of athleticism and size these teams have isn’t anywhere close to what we see in league play.” said Shook.

The NCAA allows teams to take a foreign trip every four years which allows them to get an additional 10 practices.  All eligible student-athletes, including incoming freshman and red-shirts are allowed to partake on these trips.
