Weekend Preview: Men Still Looking for Firsts PDF Print E-mail

Quest University men’s and women’s soccer finally comes home this weekend for a huge contest against UNBC.  While the men have removed the proverbial monkey off their back, an impressive road point for the women’s team against TRU last Sunday has them equally confident ahead of their homecoming.

“That’s the first of many to come,” said first year striker Mari Tarleton of the Kermodes' opening goal against TRU.  “Hopefully this weekend we can get some goals and a result from it.”

Tarleton is one of nine freshmen reinforcements that have boosted the depth of the women’s squad.  In spite of all the new faces in the locker room, one thing hasn’t changed: the team spirit.  The communal strength that embodies the entire university extends to varsity athletics, providing a unique experience.

“Everyone gets along very well and that’s not something I’ve experienced in the past,” added the American striker.  “The whole team works really well together: it’s complete synergy.”

The men’s team head into the weekend with their own unique challenge: maintaining excellence from their first two wins.  While the students are hard pressed with the final week of their academic block, the tone set by the coaching staff in practice and goal setting is very clear.

“After getting their first two wins, the key is not being satisfied,” stated assistant coach Chris Cerroni.  “We’re still looking for a first home win,” added head coach Adam Day.  “The only thing you can settle on or be satisfied with is being champions at the end of the season.  We’re in search of achieving another goal this weekend.”

This weekend’s action kicks off on Saturday at 1pm followed by the men’s game at 3pm.  The “Kermode Clan” will be out in full force, painted in green from head to toe.  Early season performances haven given these great fans something to really cheer about.
