Newton Athletic Park, Surrey, B.C. - The Men's Quest Kermodes played against the Kwantlen Eagles this past Saturday in Surrey. The Kermodes were still looking for their first win of the season, and had high expectations of doing so that day. In the first half the Kermodes looked strong, confident and organized.  The solid formation proved to be of benefit to the Kermodes on the score sheet as Mauwana Mallet scored his first goal of the season to open up the game 1-0.  In the second half, Mallet struck again receiving a nice through ball from Kevin Berhna.  The second Mallet tally may have been academic as it appeared as though Kwantlen had ceded to the Kermodes tight, formation and showed little perchance of scoring. As the final whistle sounded, Quest took home their first three points of the season, and began preparing for their next game against Douglas College the next day.

Town Centre Park, Coquitlam, B.C. - The Men's Quest Kermodes, still buzzing from the win a day before, entered the game with confidence even as the skies burst overhead.  Douglas College buoyed by a win of their own used outside speed to attack the Quest defenders early.   The stalwart Kermode defense though under pressure held and soon the game began to settle into a tight hard nosed mid-field contest where formations were tight frustrating both teams as they attempted to push forward. Big tackles and hard knocks were delivered as the two teams attempted to push forward and assert their dominance.  A number of yellow cards and injuries began to pile up on both sides and it was not until the 85th minute that a goal was scored. After a huge hit by James Mckinkley, a free kick was awarded to Douglas just above the 18-yard box. Momentary confusion in the Quest defence resulted in the free kick being lofted toward the goal.  The first shot was tipped onto the bar a crucial save by Lucas Menz the Kermodes all-league keeper, but a Douglas striker was rose quickly and headed the rebound into the goal just above the frantic Kermode defenders.  The final 5 minutes found Quest battling hard to try find an equalizer.  For their efforts the visitors from Squamish won a free kick opportunity where Mauwana Mallet's strike from about 30 yards out found the wood of the crossbar before bouncing out of play.  Little separated the two sides at the final whistle but the Royals walked away with the victory, the beneficiaries of a well put together set piece.
