BehrnsNew Westminister, B.C. – After picking up their first league win on Friday night against Douglas College, the Kermodes came into the back end of their double header against the Royals focused on finishing week two of the basketball season with two wins.  Thanks to a well rounded team performance, they were able to accomplish their mission.

The game started slowly with both teams feeling each other out and exchanging baskets.  It wasn’t until the second quarter where the Kermodes began to separate themselves from their competition.  Delainee Behrns (Balgonie Greenall/Regina, SK) set the tone for the Kermodes in the frame by attacking the basket and getting to the free throw line where she went five for five in the period.  Quest went into the halftime break with a 27-21 lead.

The Quest women came out on fire in the third quarter and blew the game wide open.  They outscored the Royals 27-7 in the frame and did it with pinpoint shooting from the perimeter and suffocating defense that led to turnovers and easy points.  From the end of the third quarter on the Kermodes were able to coast on cruise control and finish the weekend off with a 69-45 victory.

“The most impressive thing about the performance,” commented Head Coach Todd Jordan, “was that we had five girls in double figures and a sixth that came close with 9 points.  Anytime you can get a scoring distribution like that it shows that we are playing together as a team.  It was especially satisfying as we had a couple girls out with injuries so there were girls who came in and stepped up when we needed it.”  Leading scorers for the Kermodes were Brittany Harteveld (Riverside/Pitt Meadows, B.C.) with 14, Courtney Harpur (Brookswood/Langley, B.C.) with 13 and Charlotte Lau (John Oliver/Vancouver, B.C.) with 13.  Behrns also contributed with 4 assists and 4 steals.  The Royals were paced by Cynthia Lawson who had 15 points.
