Vikings Take Tournament Title PDF Print E-mail
Moses Lake, WA - The Final of the Big Bend Classic pitted the Quest Kermodes against the hometown Big Bend Vikings.  Both teams came out ready to play and executed well early as the lead changed hands 7 times on the way to a 34-33 halftime lead for the visiting Kermodes.

The second half however saw the Kermodes have some difficulties finishing around the basket as the hometown Vikings pushed the pace and took the lead for good with about 8 minutes to go in the contest before cruising home with the 76-60 win.  "I thought we were very patient early and the score was indicative of what we were trying to do, however the pace of the game got away from us in the second half and our spacing and ability to attack from space were limited by a well coached Big Bend team.  You have to give them credit for what they did to disrupt our flow and the efficiency with which they rebounded the ball," suggested Mike Woollard about the final contest.  "All in all I am happy but not satisfied with our performance down here.  We did get better today and we have another week of doing so before we take some time for the winter break.  The first half of the season has really put us in position to reach a majority of our goal.  Now is the time we have to put in the work individually to ensure that we finish the job."

In the game the Kermodes were once more lead by freshman Katrin Sandbichlor who recorded her second straight double-double of the tournament (22 points and 13 rebounds) to go along with 3 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks.

For the Vikings, Alli Nielsen exploded for 26 points and 15 rebounds, while Allie Kelsey contributed 13 points and Sierra Zollinger had 10.

Due to the cancellation of the CBC Bearcat Invitational the Quest Women will resume play with an exhibition contest against the Langara Falcons on January 6th before travelling to the island to face the Vancouver Island Mariners on Jan 13.
