Naniamo, BC - Friday night saw the Quest Kermodes Women's basketball team take on the highly ranked Vancouver Island Mariners. In what was billed a battle of two PACWEST powers the game lived up to the hype. Despite the early jump by the Mariners which paced them to an 18-12 first quarter lead, the Kermodes fought back closing the gap to 2 by half. A wild second half featured 6 lead changes and 5 ties. The Mariners size advantage proved to much as their rebounding edged helped them make a push to break the game open with just under three minutes to play. Late game fouling and composed freethrow shooting helped the Mariners to the 75-62 victory. The Kermodes were lead by Katrin Sandbichler who recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. While Shayna Cameron and Cassidy Osterling provided solid defense to a team which featured 8 players recording 5 or more points on the scoresheet.
