Squamish, BC - The Quest Kermodes entertained Sea-to-Sky rivals the Capilano University Blues on Thursday at the Kave. It was a defensive struggle in the first quarter as both teams did a good job slowing down the other teams running game and countering their offensive sets. After one quarter of play the Kermodes managed to hold a slim 12-10 lead. The 2nd Quarter saw a little more offense as both teams found someone with a hot hand. In the Kermodes case that was 2nd Year Guard Maja Smilijic as she broke out for three 3's during the quarter to keep the Kermodes in front 29-28. The lead changed hands multiple times in the third quarter before an 8-2 run sparked by the play of Jenn Bodnar put the Blues ahead to end the quarter up 7. The Kermodes battled back and numerous times cut into the Blues lead but were not able to push back quite far enough as Capilano earned the 72-65 victory. The visiting Blues were lead by Jenna Ralston's 17 points and 8 rebound, while Jenn Bodner had 16 points off the bench. Maja Smilijic lead the Kermodes with 18 points while Katryn Sandbichler contributed with 14 points and 17 rebounds. The loss leaves the Kermodes with a 5-4 record in PACWEST play good enough for 4th in the league. They will be on the road next Friday at Kwantlen and again on Saturday in Langara. The next home action for the Kermodes comes on Feburary 10th when CBC comes to the Kave. |
