Kermodes 63 Timberwolves 77 PDF Print E-mail

Prince George, BC - A raucous crowd greeted the visiting Kermodes on Senior night at the Northern Sports Centre.  The pounding of the drums and the screams of the crowd was matched by the furry on the floor as both teams sprinted out of the gate.  Five lead changes and seven ties highlighted the first 20 minutes as first year player Katrin Sandbichler lead the Kermodes with 12 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals in just over 15 minutes of action before her right knee twisted and she was lost to the visitors for the remainder of the contest.

The number 3 ranked UNBC TImberwolves (11-0) on the season were able to take advantage of the Kermodes mistakes in the second half stretching their lead to 14 points before the final buzzer allowing them to take the contest 77-63.

"We played hard," stated Coach Mike Woollard.  "We won the rebounding battle, and we defended very well in the half court.  The difference tonight was a number of the little things.  We turned the ball over to much to expect to win against the number 3 team in the country.  We missed a few easy ones early and we struggled to stop them in transition.  Give them credit they are big, strong and athletic through the entire lineup and they played well tonight."

The Kermodes were lead by Nicola Hitchcock who scored 14 points and collected a double-double with 10 rebounds, Sandbichler's 12 points and 11 rebounds gave the Kermodes 2 players with double-doubles and 3rd year guard Delainee Behrns stepped up with 10 points and 6 assists.

The hometown Timberwolves were lead by Kady Dandeneau who scored 31 off the bench and 5th year senior Jen Clyne who provided them with 16 points.

The Kermodes now return to the Kave for four straight home games beginning Friday February 10th at 6pm when the CBC Bearcats come to town.
