Playoff Silver Medal PDF Print E-mail

October 28, 2013 – Women’s Soccer

Squamish, BC – The Kermodes Women’s Soccer program has achieved a historic silver medal at this year’s PACWEST Provincial Championship in Nanaimo, BC.  After a convincing win against UBCO in the semi-final, the team came up just short in a tight, one-goal final against TRU.  The medal marks the finest achievement in the team’s four-year playoff history.

Fourth year keeper, Tiana Gilchrist, and defender Becky Schile were named to the tournament all-star team.  For more info on the Kermodes’ playoff run, check out the Squamish Chief.

Ayers Wins Athlete of the Week PDF Print E-mail

October 9, 2013 – Women’s Soccer

paige_2Squamish, BC – First-year midfielder, Paige Ayers, has been awarded the PACWEST BC Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week.  After a concussion hindered her contributions to the Kermodes’ early part of the season, Ayers announced herself to the league on Sunday afternoon with a hat trick against the Langara Falcons.  The first-year student from South Surrey, BC played the full 90 on Sunday morning and one of her three goals included a 50-60 yard solo run through several defenders before putting the ball in the back of the net.

“Paige is finally back to her absolute best after some tough luck with injuries,” said Quest Head Coach, Martina Franko.  “Two of her goals were absolute cracks into the top corner and she added another with a defender all over her back.”

The Kermode women have nearly clinched a playoff spot with four games to go in the regular season.  Ayers’ return to the squad has coincided with a jump to second in the PACWEST table and a sixth in the national CCAA rankings.

September 4th, 2013 - Men's and Women's Soccer

Squamish, BC - The Quest Kermodes soccer program is back in action this weekend as the PACWEST 2013 season opens in Squamish.  The men and women will host Douglas College on Saturday, September 7th and Kwantlen on Sunday, September 9th.  Please note the special kickoff times of 1pm and 3pm in conjunction with the Gran Fondo bike race on Saturday.

The lady Kermodes are coming off a bronze medal finish in 2012 and have added three strong first year talents to fill in for their small graduating class from last year.  Returning all-star Mari Tarleton will set the tone up front while Jess Freeman is back from injury this season.  Becky Schile will continue to sure things up at the back after converting to centre back in 2012.

The men are hoping for a 100% turnaround from last season based on the maturity of their existing squad.  The third recruiting class under head coach Jonas Worth has bolstered a returning class after only two graduated last spring.  JB McEown has been reunited with old Vancouver Fusion teammate Andrew Shoring (1st year) while Zach Roberts-Winter will strengthen the midfield fresh off his experience at Canada Summer Games (Team Saskatchewan).

Admission to both games is free and please bring your Kermode green!

“It’s not about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. If you know what you’re worth, go out and get it, but you have to be willing to take the hit”

-         Rocky Balboa

Although the Women’s soccer team suffered an unfortunate, and disappointing 3-2 loss against the Douglas College Royals Saturday, the team held their heads high. Sunday was not only the last home game of the season, but it was more importantly the final home game for the following graduating fourth year students: Samadhi Bouchard, Baylee Wilkinson, Brittany Shalagan, Lindsay Kay Epp, and Shannon Nordling.
