Historic Double Puts Kermode Women in Playoffs PDF Print E-mail

October 25, 2010 - Women's Soccer

wsocgroupSquamish, B.C. - Two wins on the final weekend of the season by the Quest women’s soccer team have provided the program with another first: playoffs.  A last-minute winner by Mari Tarleton against Langara on Saturday, her second of the game, and a 2-0 gutsy win against Capilano sends the Kermodes to Surrey for the BCCAA Provincial Championships.

Saturday’s win against perennial favourites Langara represents huge progress for the season.  Tarleton’s opening goal was a sublime chip from distance before Langara’s talented striker, Michelle Francis, pulled one back.  The game looked to be heading for a draw when substitute Tatiana Bliss set up Tarleton for a last minute winner.

Sunday’s game was played under harsh weather conditions against huge rivals Capilano, also needing a win to advance.  Lindsay Epp’s free kick was headed home perfectly on the far post by Erica Benson in the first half.  Bliss set up Chelsey Forsberg, playing in her final regular season game of her collegiate career, who hit a left-footed chip from 25 yards over the Blue’s keeper.

The Kermodes now turn their attention to Kwantlen for their first round game at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey, this Friday at 12pm.  As the old cliché goes, the team has picked the right time to peak.
