Head Coach Martina Franko
Martina is a Canadian National B licensed coach who started her coaching career while still in high school. She coached for the World Soccer Inc. in California from 1990-1994. She started the Girls Soccer Academy in 1994-2000 with her sister while in college, a training ground for girls ages 6-18 years old. After graduating from The Colorado College with a degree in Psychology, she joined the NCAA Div. I coaching staff as an assistant coach in 1998. Martina moved to Squamish in 2001 and developed the International School of Soccer (ISOS) in Squamish which develops skills for players of all ages. Martina currently plays for the Canadian Women's Soccer team and has made Canadian soccer history by qualifying for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She joined the Canadian National team in 2005 where she started as a forward, and has since been transformed into a solid defender. Martina enjoys her new role as a defender, but misses the glory of a goal scoring forward. Martina also played for the Vancouver Whitecaps from 2001-2005 and during which won two W-League National Championships in 2003 and 2005. She was the leading scorer in 2003 with over 18 goals. Martina played NCAA Div. I soccer for The Colorado College and is currently 2nd on the all-time scoring list with 107 career points. She also plays for Surrey United in the women's premier league and led Surrey to win two national championships in 2004 and 2006. While not playing or coaching soccer, you will find Martina in her home town of Squamish skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, swimming in the lakes, or basically anything that allows her to be outside enjoying the mountains. She has traveled to remote places in the world with these sports and finds it a great way to get off the beaten path. Her trips to remote islands of the Philippines for surfing, climbing in Thailand, telemarking in Chamonix, France are among some of her favorites. Being a successful student-athlete herself, Martina leads by example and is a great role model for the athletes at Quest. She is looking forward to building a strong team for this fall 2008 and has no doubt they will have a successful season. |
